Out of the Gates!

Coach Paul told the players after yesterday's game that they need to play Riverdog baseball all 6 innings and to be ready to play game #2 of the tournament as soon as the Dawgs are led out of the gates!!!

Well, the players did just that tonight! With a solid defense and a great offense, the Riverdogs took control of the game and never gave up that control the entire 6 innings! They went on and won their second game of the tournament against the Bulls, 11-4.

Here's how we looked DEFENSIVELY...

1st inning:
Ben (shortstop) to Gavin (second) for the first 2 outs
Griffin D caught a fly ball at the pitcher's mound for the last out

2nd inning:
Ben (shortstop) to Gavin (second) for out #1
Gavin performed a double play...tagged the runner for out #2 and then threw the ball to Lance (first) for the final out of the inning!

3rd inning:
Lance had an unassisted play at first for out #1
Ben caught a fly ball at shortstop for out #2
Gavin (second) to Lance (first) for out #3
A perfect 1-2-3 inning!

4th inning:
Ben caught a fly ball at shortstop for out #1
Ben (shortstop) to Gavin (second) for out #2
Ben caught a hard line drive at shortstop for out #3

5th inning:
Gavin (second) to Lance (first) for the first out
Ben (shortstop) to Hayden (third) for the second out (great decision!)
Here's what happened for the third out...the Bulls player hit the ball to right centerfield...Brayden threw the ball to his cutoff (Gavin)...the runner rounded the base and got stuck off the base and Gavin tagged the runner out!

6th inning:
Gavin (second) to Lance (first) for out #1
Hayden caught a fly ball at third for out #2
It took a couple plays and a few runs scored to get the last out.
Lance had an unassisted play at first for the last out of the game!

What a game!!!! Outstanding job holding the runners by getting the ball from the outfield to the infield...nice work Alex, Nathaniel, Brock, Brayden, Bailey, GW and Will!!!

Also, nice job behind the plate catching all those balls GW and Bailey!!

Here's how we looked OFFENSIVELY...

Gavin: 2-3 with 2 runs scored (great job leading off!)
Hayden: 3-3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored (wow!)
Ben: 3-3 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored (keep it up!)
Lance: 2-3 with 1 run scored (hard hits!!)
Griffin D: 2-3 with 3 RBI (great job!)
Alex: 3-3 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored (he is on fire!)
Nathaniel: 1-3 with 1 run scored (great hit!!!)
Brock: 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI (way to step up!!!)
Brayden: 1-3 (way to step up!)
Bailey: 0-3 (get 'em next time!)
GW: 1-3 (what an exciting hit!!)
Will: 1-3 (faster than lightening getting to first!)

We'll have some practices this week and then return to Nowell Field on Saturday for a 2pm game!!!
