Scrappers 16 Riverdogs 7

It was a late night for both teams with a 7:30pm start on a Friday night. The Riverdogs fought hard and we're working on getting through that 4th inning...it seems to get us each time.

Tonight we played with only 9 kids. Our outfielders had a  lot of ground to cover since we played 3 and not 5. Gavin played first base for the first time ever. Brock and Nathaniel swapped out second base and pitcher. Griffin fought hard behind the plate for most of the innings with Will taking two of them. Brayden, Alex, Griffin and Will all chipped in with good defense in the outfield getting that ball in and covering a lot of space! The Riverdogs played hard after a tough loss to the Lookouts at the last game and down 3 players.

Here's how we did defensively...

1st inning:
Ben (shortstop) to Gavin (first) for out #1
Hayden had an unassisted play at third for an out

2nd inning:
Brock (second) to Ben (shortstop) at second for out #1
Nathaniel (pitcher) to Ben (shortstop) at second for an out

3rd inning:
A great 1-2-3 inning for this young team!!!

Hayden (third) to Gavin (first) for out #2
Ben (shortstop) to Gavin (first) for out #3

6th inning:

Game #3: RIVERDOGS 14 Bulls 18

We'll see what the "official" score comes up as for this game if it's 18-14 or 18-15! At any rate, we lost and our team is seeing some improvement at each game! With 8 new kids on the team...we are representing well! Keep up the great work DAWGS!!!

Here's how we looked DEFENSIVELY...

1st inning:
Lance had an unassisted play at first for out #1
Gavin had an unassisted play at second for out #2

Nice job behind the plate Brock, Nathaniel, Will and Brayden! It takes a lot to have that equipment on and trying to catch all the balls behind the plate! Nicely done!

Here's how we looked OFFENSIVELY...

Hayden: 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored

First Scrimmage of the Season...

The Dawgs faced the Scrappers Saturday afternoon for their first scrimmage! All 12 were present for the big event and Coach Paul was able to let them play a few positions to try things out. This gave the newcomers an opportunity to be part of a West Raleigh game situation and it was so exciting to watch!

The coaches know what they need to focus on at the next couple practices and I'm sure the players are eagerly awaiting their first game of the season...against the Scrappers on Saturday, September 8th at 1:15pm! That's also Opening Ceremonies!
